Florida Food Service

Florida Food Service is a family-owned food distribution company located in Gainesville, Florida. In 1998, they constructed and moved into a new state-of-the-art 40,000 SF food distribution center, located in the Gainesville Airport Industrial Park. Additions to the office space and warehouse were completed that involved an 86,000 SF food distribution warehouse with dry, cool, and cold storage, accessed by multiple semi-truck docks. Brown & Cullen provided civil engineering design and permitting for the original facility as well as for the additions. Historically, the property was part of the Gainesville Air Field & Rifle Range, a World War II Army training base. As a result of the use of the property and findings on adjacent properties, environmental assessments were required for this project. A Wellfield Exemption permit for this industrial project was necessary from the City of Gainesville. Another unique aspect of this project was its proximity to the Gainesville Regional Airport. A “Determination of No Hazard to Air Navigation” was obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration, and an Airport Obstruction Permit was required from the City of Gainesville. Additional project permitting included the City of Gainesville site development plan review, stormwater permitting with the St. Johns River Water Management District, utility permitting with Gainesville Regional Utilities, and the NPDES permit through FDEP.
