Ben Hill Griffin Stadium North Parking Lot
Project: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium North Parking Lot
Location: University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida
Client: University Athletic Association, Inc.
Budget: $200,000
Time Frame: 2001
This parking lot project, situated on the north side of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was to provide premium parking facilities for UF football Game Days only. With the lot being adjacent to W. University Ave at the gateway to the UF campus, particular attention was paid to the aesthetic design features of the parking facility. The lot was designed to fit in as a “plaza” hardscape when not in use as a parking facility and to not stand out as a “Parking Lot” at the north edge of the UF campus. The lot was constructed entirely of pavers and was designed to be completely low impact with paver drive aisles and grass stabilized spaces. The layout included tree plantings and natural stormwater improvements designed to create a natural feel for the space. The project was permitted on a fast-track schedule for construction to be completed over the summer months and be available for the fall football season. The project was approved by the UF review committees, and the stormwater management improvements were designed in conformance to the UF Master Stormwater Plan.
