A. Quinn Jones Museum - Rezoning & Land Use Change

Recognized as a place of importance in Florida State history, the A. Quinn Jones residence was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 27, 2010. A. Quinn Jones was an influential African-American educator in the Gainesville community and throughout Alachua County and the State of Florida. This residence was where he lived with his family from 1925 until 1997. The house is being renovated and restored to establish a museum and community center for the Fifth Avenue neighborhood in the memory of Mr. Jones. BCI worked with the Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to provide planning services for rezoning the property to an allowable zoning district for the museum. The rezoning petition was successful in achieving the necessary rezoning and land-use changes required for the redevelopment of the 0.27-acre property. The property was rezoned from Residential Conservation (RC) to Public Services and Operations (PS), and a small-scale land-use amendment was obtained to change the Future Land Use category from Residential Low-Density (RL) to Public Facilities (PF).
