UF Southwest Recreation Center - Addition

Project: UF Southwest Recreation Center Expansion

Location: University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida

Client: University of Florida / RDG Planning & Design

Budget: $11,000,000

Time Frame: 2008-2010

The University of Florida Southwest Recreation Center is the most popular active recreation facility on the UF Campus. Originally constructed in 1994, and expanded in 2011, the facility was overcrowded with over 750,000 visits per year. As a result, the Center required an additional expansion to provide more recreation area and visitor capacity. This 50,300 SF addition and renovation to the SW Recreation Center consisted of new administrative offices, a cardio fitness space, an elevated track, renovated multi-purpose activity spaces, and a personal training suite. Brown & Cullen provided civil engineering design services that included pedestrian sidewalk improvements, utility improvements, parking and roadway improvements, and a unique, aesthetically pleasing, Low-Impact Development (LID) stormwater management system. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification.
