A Nan Temple

Project: A Nan Temple

Location: SE Gainesville, Florida

Client: Dai Tong Lam Buddhist Association, Inc.

Budget: $350,000

Time Frame: 2008-2011

A Nan Temple is the first Buddhist Temple constructed in Gainesville, and was built with support from the local Vietnamese Community. Located in a serene area in southeast Gainesville, a short distance north of Boulware Springs, this Buddhist spiritual facility is planned to include a library, a Buddhist Monk’s quarters, and Buddhist gardens and ponds. Brown & Cullen provided overall site master planning, civil engineering design and permitting and construction inspection services for Phase I of the project. The first phase included a 2,500 SF single-story multi-purpose facility, or “Hau Lieu”, an architectural pagoda, decorative fencing, a stormwater management facility, paved and grass-stabilized parking, sidewalks, roadway crosswalk improvements, utilities, and landscape improvements. The City of Gainesville required special use permitting and environmental assessments, since the property is designated as Uplands in the Environmentally Significant Land & Resources Map Series. Permitting agencies included the City of Gainesville, GRU, SJRWMD, and Alachua County.
