Museum Road Median Improvements
Project: Museum Road Median Improvements
Location: University of Florida Campus, Gainesville, Florida
Client: University of Florida
Budget: $50,000
Time Frame: 2001-2003
In 2003, the J. Wayne Reitz Center was expanded to include the UF Welcome Center and University Bookstore. Brown & Cullen was hired by the University of Florida in 2001 to study the impact of the proposed Bookstore and Welcome Center (and parking garage) on the intersection of Museum Road and Phelps Drive. This offset intersection already was being impacted by large volumes of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and there was concern as to how the vehicular traffic increase and the increase of pedestrian traffic would have on this congested area. In cooperation with the University, BCI provided a design renovation plan for the Museum Rd. corridor that included new street medians, traffic calming, crosswalk enhancements, turn lane reconstruction, revised roadway access, and improved pedestrian and vehicle traffic flow. Since its construction in 2003, this highly congested area continues to function properly, as it handles heavy vehicle and pedestrian movements in a safe and efficient manner.str
