NW 140th Terrace Improvements
Project: NW 140th Terrace Improvements
Location: Jonesville, Alachua County, Florida
Client: Jonesville Plaza, LLC
Budget: $350,000
Time Frame: 2008-2009
Brown & Cullen provided civil engineering design and permitting services for a major roadway improvements project along the NW 140th Terrace roadway corridor. The NW 140th Terrace roadway section lying between W. Newberry Road and NW 2nd Lane was widened from a 2-lane roadway into a 4-lane roadway section. The roadway improvements project was implemented to serve new development proposed in the Jonesville Business Park. The initial phases of development served by the improved roadway were a new Walgreens Pharmacy and the corporate headquarters of Campus USA Credit Union. The project improvements included new sidewalks, crosswalks, curb & gutter, underground utilities, and new inverted landscaped medians that contained Low-Impact Development (LID) stormwater basins. This was a very unique stormwater management design element, as the revised roadway was designed to drain toward the center medians instead of to the outside storm sewer system. This provided upstream water-quality stormwater treatment in the median swales, prior to discharging to the developmentās master stormwater basin. BCI, the project developer, and the Alachua County Public Works Dept. cooperated on implementing this innovative design feature. The project was permitted with Alachua County, FDOT, GRU, and the Suwannee River Water management District.
