SW 75th St. Relocation

Project: SW 75th St. Extension

Location: SR 24 (SW Archer Rd) / SW 75th Street Intersection Alachua County, Florida

Client: Brice Group

Budget: $2,000,000+

Time Frame: 2004-2006

This project was designed in support of Phase 1 of the Brytan PD, and included the extension of SW 75th St. south of SW Archer Rd. (SR 24). When the Brytan PD was initially planned, the primary access was to be provided via an extension of SW 75th St. (Tower Rd.) beyond SW Archer Rd. to the south. This new roadway extension created a realignment of SW 75th St. to re-connect with the existing southern leg of SW 75th St., a rural 2 lane roadway offset to the west of Tower Rd. The new roadway connection was created to be one of the first TND “Main Streets” in Alachua County. Design features of the new SW 75th St. roadway included, table-top intersections, parallel parking, angled on-street parking, wide sidewalks, street trees in tree grates, and pedestrian scale lighting. The project also involved the complete redesign and reconstruction of the signalization at the SW Archer Rd. intersection, and turn lane improvements at all 4 intersection approaches. The project converted this State Roadway intersection from a 3-way intersection to a 4-way intersection. Brown & Cullen was the lead design consultant for the project and handled all engineering design and permitting. Permits were obtained from many agencies including, FDOT, Alachua County, City of Gainesville, FDEP, and Gainesville Regional Utilities.
