GRU KWRF - Infiltrating Wetlands
Project: GRU KWRF - Infiltrating Wetlands
Location: 3901 SW 63rd Blvd., Gainesville, FL
Client: Gainesville Regional Utilities
Budget: $200,000
Time Frame: 2008-2009
Brown & Cullen provided Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) with civil engineering design services to implement a wetlands infiltration project at their Kanapaha Water Reclamation Facility (KWRF). The purpose of the project was to provide an innovative effluent disposal technique utilizing water quality treatment through the use of infiltrating wetlands. The project design included three basin cells, each sized at roughly 1.1 acres, that were used to treat the discharged wastewater effluent. The design anticipated that the treated and infiltrated effluent would provide improved water quality performance. Environmental consultants are performing ongoing sampling and testing of the treated effluent to evaluate this model effluent disposal project.
